If you’ve been keeping up with this year’s Star Search, chances are you would have tuned in to The Dream Competition. The series follows the journey of the Top 20 contestants as they attend masterclasses and hone their performance skills ahead of the finals on Nov 24.
The most recent episode saw the hopefuls familiarising themselves with body movement and stage presence, hosting, and acting abilities.
They were also seen filming a Shopee ad.
The 11.11 Big Sale ad has the Top 20 dressed in bright orange Shopee tees, dancing to the tune of the iconic 2000s NSYNC track ‘Bye Bye Bye’.
The tagline? “Baby buy, buy, buy”.
The choreography also includes NSYNC’s iconic fist-pumping dance move.
“This dance was specially choreographed by our instructor for us to display the energy that us young people have,” said 17-year-old Koh Boon Wun.
“We’re very happy and excited ‘cos many of us haven’t had the chance to appear in a TV ad like this one. We’re really anticipating the final product,” added Heng Jee Kuan, 22.
So why did the Shopee decide to collaborate with these new faces?
When 8days.sg reached out to the e-commerce platform, the company’s director Chua Kel Jin, said: “We know that many Singaporeans are looking forward to the return of Star Search after a five-year hiatus, and Shopee celebrates that same spirit of excitement and anticipation with our biggest sale of the year.”
“It’s a chance for Shopee, a homegrown brand, to partner with a well-loved local program and connect with Singapore audiences of all ages in a meaningful way,” he added.
They might not all become stars in the end, but hey, at least they can say they got to be in Shopee ad.
