SUPAMALA Hotpot in Sunway Pyramid lands a spot in the Malaysia Book of Records for being the first halal-certified Szechuan hotpot in the country.
This recognition comes shortly after the restaurant received its halal certification from JAKIM (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia) last month. This aligns with its goal of being a leading pork-free mala hotpot brand in Malaysia.
The group behind this halal-certified eatery is Yap & Wang Synergy Group Sdn Bhd. They’re also the founders of a few other Chinese hotpot restaurants including Shu Da Xia, which serves Szechuan cuisine. SUPAMALA Hotpot appears to be the group’s first foray into the halal F&B market.
According to Malay Mail, the process of getting halal-certified took SUPAMALA Hotpot about three months. This included sourcing for the right suppliers to provide halal-certified ingredients and comprehensive staff training.
For context, as part of the certification procedure, all employees at F&B stores must be sent for Halal Awareness Training. This is to ensure that they’re aware of proper food handling guidelines established by JAKIM.
As for the Malaysia Book of Records, SUPAMALA cross-checked its 29-year-old database to verify if there were any previous records with the same achievements, and couldn’t find any.
Both the halal certification and the Malaysia Book of Records accomplishments were celebrated during its grand launch a few days ago.
Marking its official opening, SUPAMALA Hotpot treated guests to a traditional Malay dance performance and a martial-arts inspired tea ceremony. Together, they reflect the brand’s diverse offerings.
Amongst its signature offerings is none other than the Szechuan Butter Mala soup base (RM38). Those that prefer not to numb their taste buds could try flavours like Collagen Chicken soup (RM35) and more localised ones like Curry Laksa soup (RM38).
The restaurant’s menu also highlights its Bamboo Shrimp Paste (RM32), Cumin Marinated Lamb (RM36), Pandan Rice Cake (RM10), and Coconut Tender Beef (RM30).
This comes just in time for the Ramadan season. The restaurant is hosting a buffet promotion from March 12 to April 12, 2024. A total of three packages are available and start from RM49.90 per person.
Looking further ahead, the brand plans to open up to 20 outlets across Malaysia. They will launch three more locations in the Klang Valley this year, so more customers can enjoy their halal Szechuan offerings.
