In April this year, 8days.sg spoke to Mediacorp actress Tay Ying about her weight gain journey for upcoming Mediacorp series The Blockbusters.

The drama, which is about four plus-sized girls and their journey to form a girl group, also stars Kayly Loh, Xixi Lim and Malaysian actress Meeki Ng.

At that time, we asked the 28-year-old star, who gained 10kg for the drama, if she was worried about not being able to shed the weight.

“To me, health is the most important, regardless of what size you are,” she chirped confidently back then.

If the people around her — like her celebrity chef boyfriend Wu Sihan — still love her despite the change in her body, then there’s no reason for her to feel insecure.

She’s definitely someone who walks the talk.

Now that she’s finally done with filming, Tay Ying took to her Instagram earlier today (Jul 3) to update everyone on her weight loss progress.

‘The most common question I’ve been getting recently: “Are you going to slim down as fast as possible?”. So here’s my answer to that: I’m really just taking all the time I need, as I am choosing to prioritise my physical and mental health,” she wrote.

After all, Tay Ying’s lifestyle has been “quite extreme” for the past five months all because of The Blockbusters.

She was eating four meals a day while consuming mass gainers, and was focusing on strength workouts instead of doing cardio to bulk up.

“Now, I’m slowly adjusting to having two meals a day and slowly getting back to my cardio regimen. In the midst of this new routine, my body is also taking her time to heal,” she explained.

“That being said, I want to take this opportunity to give thanks to my body for pulling through everything”, she added. “Regardless of the outcome, one day I shall look back at my 20s and thank myself and my body for this experience.”

The actress is going to go at her own pace for the time being, perhaps until a new project comes along.

“Maybe when a new role comes to me requiring another shape shift then we shall re-adjust. But for now, I’m listening to my body and choosing to trust this process,” she said.

Many of Tay Ying’s showbiz pals flocked to the comments section to show their support.

“Your body will adjust according to your lifestyle, just be yourself! Tune in to your body and it’ll intuitively tell you what to do — no need to effort, you’re already enough as you are,” assured Tay Ying’s My One and Only co-star Fang Rong.

“You always look fab! Congrats on wrapping!,” gushed actor-host Das DD while Tay Ying’s fellow second-gen star pal Chen Yixin wrote: “You’re amazing, so proud of you!”
