Thailand’s traveler app TAGTHAi uses AI to offer personalised trips – Data and Analytics – Digital Transformation

Thailand’s official travel super app Thai Digital Platform Social Enterprise Co., Ltd. (TAGTHAi) has launched “Design My Trip,” a generative AI-powered tool designed to simplify travel planning for visitors.

This enables travelers to create personalised trip itineraries.

The super app has collaborated with Google Cloud for this.

It is utilising Vertex AI, Google Cloud’s enterprise AI platform, and Google’s first-party foundation models including Gemini.

TAGTHAi’s chief executive officer, Thiratida Kuvantharai, said with Google Cloud, the aim is to address a major pain point faced by international visitors: navigating where to go in Thailand, and how, due to the complexity associated with finding reliable in-destination-related information that’s scattered across online platforms.

Design My Trip has been developed to distill complexities into personalised trip plans that guide travelers, reduce travel anxiety, and ensure that tourists can discover and enjoy attractions and experiences, Kuvantharai added.

The early-access version of ‘Design My Trip’ helps travelers create tailored one-to-three-day itineraries for visits to the Bangkok Metropolitan Region.

Users select specific interests, including “massage and spa,” “Michelin food,” or “Skywalk,” and the AI-powered tool generates a personalised trip plan.

Concept to production ready in four months

With Google Maps APIs integration, the new “Design My Trip” tool minimises travel time and provides access to directions, reviews, and essential information.

It creates travel plans by using an updated database of travel insights.

The database includes points of interest, local recommendations, and key information, sourced from TAGTHAi’s 48 public and private sector partners.

This information is sent in real-time to Google Cloud’s BigQuery platform, ensuring the app has the latest insights.

TAGTHAi’s chief operating and technology officer, Kanokwan Boonchai, said the team went from a concept to a production-ready solution in four months.

This was made possible by Google Cloud’s ability to streamline the creation of data-to-AI workflows that power Design My Trip while processing the large volume of data from partners, said Boonchai.

Vertex AI provides built-in tools for monitoring and evaluating model performance, necessary for maintaining the quality and accuracy of AI-generated itineraries, Boonchai added.

The full-featured version of Design My Trip will be released later this year.

It will offer expanded capabilities, allowing users to generate itineraries for longer trips and cover points of interest and Thai provinces, including Chiang Mai and Phuket.

It will also help users customise AI-generated itineraries and share with others for easier group travel planning.

In the future, TAGTHAi plans to leverage the Gemini models’ multi-language capabilities to generate travel itineraries and content in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, to cater to overseas visitors.

Design My Trip is currently available in English and Thai.
