Thomas Ong Returns To Acting After 4 Years; To Star Opposite Chen Hanwei In Mediacorp Drama

It’s been a hot minute but who’s ready to see ex-Mediacorp actor Thomas Ong on our screens again?

Recently, Mediacorp announced a new series titled I Believe I Can Fly, which will star Thomas, 55, seven-time Star Awards Best Actor Chen Hanwei, 54, as well as Brandon Wong, 52, Cavin Soh, 53, and Yao Wenlong, 53.

The cast also includes Michelle Saram, 49, and Kate Pang, 41, both of whom haven’t been seen on local screens for a while now.

The upcoming drama will revolve around five ‘uncles’ — Hanwei, Thomas, Brandon, Cavin and Wenlong — who find themselves reevaluating their purposes in life after the sudden death of an old pal whom they had just reconnected with at a school reunion.

This marks Thomas’ first Mediacorp drama since 2020’s Super Dad, which coincidentally also starred Hanwei.

In I Believe I Can Fly, Thomas will play ‘Wang Shun Tian’, a rich man who learns that money is not everything after he suddenly falls sick.

Since his hiatus, Thomas’ only other showbiz appearance was as a host for 8world’s 2024 travelogue, where he flew to Bangkok’s Chinatown to explore their food and culture. Apart from that, he’s been busy travelling the world.
