Unable To Find Affordable Housing, Chinese Girl, 18, Rents Company’s Toilet For S.20 A Month

With home rental prices through the roof, an 18-year-old girl from Hunan, China, has taken an unconventional approach to housing — by renting her company’s toilet.

Yes, you read that right.

As she was unwilling to paying 800 yuan (S$147) on rent and couldn’t find an affordable place, the teen, surnamed Yang, who makes 2.7K yuan (S$497) a month working at a furniture store, convinced her boss’ wife to let her live in the company’s showroom restroom.

She pays just 50 yuan (S$9.20) a month to cover water and electricity costs.

Yang initially offered to pay 200 yuan (S$36.80), but her boss’ wife refused to accept it.

Though sleeping in the showroom was an option, Yang finds the space too open and scary at night.

She’s been living in the restroom for almost a month. At night, she hangs a cloth over the toilet stall doors, sets up a folding bed, and even cooks inside the restroom.

While some netizens sympathised with her financial decision, others speculated whether she was simply trying to gain attention – especially since Yang has expressed interest in becoming a livestreamer.

However, she remains unfazed by the criticism, insisting that renting a toilet is simply a practical choice.

Her goal? To save enough money to buy a house and a car in the future.

That said, her days of toilet-living may be numbered.

She revealed that her boss is building an extra room, and once renovations are complete, she will move in.

“As long as I work in the company, I don’t plan to rent a room outside,” she said.

A long-service award might just be in order.
