More information about the shocking fatal stabbing incident that occurred yesterday (10 December) has been revealed.

The victim is a 34-year-old Vietnamese woman, Dao Thi Hong.

Dao, a mother of three, had been working in Singapore to support her family back in Vietnam.

The incident occurred at Quan Long Nippon Paint hardware shop, located at Block 210 Hougang Street 21. Dao succumbed to her injuries after being stabbed multiple times by a 42-year-old man, who has since been arrested for murder.

Dao Thi Hong is a Devoted Mother and Hardworking Employee

According to The Straits Times and Lianhe Zaobao, Dao Thi Hong, originally from Hanoi, had moved to Singapore five years ago to provide for her family, which includes her husband, three children, and her parents.

Her children range from a teenage daughter to her youngest, a seven-year-old girl.

Friends described her as kind-hearted and well-liked by residents in the Hougang area.

Dao’s family is making arrangements to travel to Singapore to handle her affairs and bring her body home.

However, her husband was unable to secure a passport in time to join the rest of the family.

What Happened

The violent incident occurred at around 11am yesterday, witnessed by several bystanders.

Reports indicate that the suspect, who is also believed to be employed by the same store, attacked Dao with a knife.

A 26-year-old co-worker attempted to intervene but was injured. Emergency responders transported two individuals to Changi General Hospital and one to Sengkang General Hospital.

Following the attack, the hardware shop remained shuttered today (11 December 2024), with a makeshift altar set up behind the store where friends paid their respects.

Quan Long Nippon Paint hardware store is reportedly cooperating with police investigations and assisting with arrangements for Dao’s family.

The suspect is set to be charged with murder on 12 December. If convicted, he faces the death penalty.
