Japan’s newly minted Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is starting off his term proving that he can be funny.
In a video from 2018 that has since resurfaced, the 67-year-old, who took office on October 1, was seen dressed as popular Dragon Ball villain Majin Buu during the opening of the Kurayoshi Figure Museum.
In a bid to prank Shigeru, Masahiko Inashima, the president of the event informed all guests except the former to turn up in cosplay.
“He [Shigeru] was a little surprised and even asked to confirm if the outfit was meant for him,” said
Despite the sneak attack, Shigeru took the joke well and during his speech said, “You never know what life throws at you.”
We wonder if our local politicians can be as light-hearted as Shigeru to appear at an event in cosplay. They are already in on the Labubu trend, right?
Netizens seem to also vibe well with the video with many praising Shigeru for being a sport.
“A Prime Minister in a Majin Buu costume? I want to be at the same party as him,” read a comment.
However, some came out to criticise Shigeru, with one meanly writing, “Hopefully his plans for Japan’s future are better than his cosplay appearance”.
Ouch. Some people need to lighten up.
