Here’s something that might interest fish enthusiasts.
A Xiaohongshu user was shocked when she recently came across rare giant arapaimas in a public pond in Singapore.
“Why are these fishes in Singapore so big! It’s outrageous! Why are there giants in the shopping mall!” she wrote.
A quick search shows that the arapaimas can be found not at a shopping mall but Dempsey Hill Pond, and they’ve lived there for over a decade.
For those who don’t know, the arapaima is considered the largest freshwater fish in the world and can grow up to three metres long.
The woman continued: “I always thought these fish could only be found in aquariums. They [can get] so close [to us]! There’s no protection at all. It’s super scary!”
She also said that the arapaimas probably belong to the person who owns the pond and wondered if “it was something that made rich people happy”.
She was apparently so afraid of the fishes, her “hands were shaking” as she was taking the video.
Netizens were intrigued by the post, with many saying they never knew the pond existed and will now be making a trip down to see the fishes.
Others agreed with her about how “scary” the arapaimas looked, with some saying they could simply “jump over the pond’s railings”.
Really?
Well, for those looking for a ‘safer’ option, maybe visiting River Wonders at Mandai would be the better option.
