Though BTS fans aka the ARMY will have to wait till at least June 11, 2025 until Jungkook, is discharged from the military, someone thought a lookalike contest will help tide them over.
A Jungkook lookalike competition was held on Sunday (Nov 24) in Ping Tom Park, Chicago with the winner taking home US$20 (S$26.90) and a bottle of soju.
Content creator Andrew Alexander, whose followers have long touted the resemblance (really?) between him and the ‘Seven’ singer, won the contest.
According to a TikTok video, he even took the effort to draw on Jungkook’s signature hand tattoos and put on the same piercings.
In a way, you can say Andrew has been prepping for this moment for a while now.
During the pandemic lockdown four years ago, Andrew’s sister did a comprehensive 11-minute on how she ‘jungkook-fied’ him.
The video has since garnered more than 2.8 million views, and some followers even foretelling then that the YouTuber will one day meet the BTS cutie.
Close enough for now.
We don’t deny the 20-year-old is cute but is it just us or it is a little hard to spot the similarities?
Any thoughts, Jungkook?
However, it seems Andrew’s win drew a mixed reaction from netizens, who, like us, had to squint our eyes for a shred of resemblance to the golden maknae.
“At least he got all the piercings right,” cooed a sharp-eyed ARMY.
One netizen even baulked at the prizes and went, “So much effort just for US$20 and a bottle of soju?” while another observed that at 20, Andrew is not of the legal age to drink.
However, Andrew’s own fans came out to defend his win, with many saying that the physical similarities might not be that apparent, but their mannerisms are quite similar.
“I’ve followed him for so long and this felt like years in the making,” read a comment.
Who knows? BTS’s record label, Big Hit Music might reach out for opportunities, right?
