Woman from S’pore Family Dies in Car Crash in Taiwan; Husband Driving a Rented Car

A woman from a Singapore family died during a car crash in Taiwan. The car had crashed into an electricity pole.

Here’s everything you need to know about the car crash.

Singapore Family Involved in Car Crash in Taiwan While Driving a Rented Car

On Saturday (14 December), a woman passed away after a car crash in Taiwan. The woman was from a Singapore family of three, consisting of herself, her husband, and their 5-year-old daughter.

The accident allegedly happened at around 2 pm on Provincial Highway No. 3 in Miaolin County’s Shihtan Township. The accident occurred at the 114 km mark on the highway.

But the real question is this — how did the car crash even happen in the first place?

According to Taiwanese news reports, the family of three had rented a white sedan during their trip to Taiwan. The woman’s 36-year-old husband was driving the car with the family on board.

The white sedan had allegedly veered left on a right hand curve on the highway, causing it to crash into an electricity pole. First responders eventually found the car wedged between the electricity pole and a roadside wall.

Upon crashing into the electricity pole, the rear of the car lifted off the ground. The electricity pole snapped and fell onto the highway.

A rather gruesome scene.

Woman Dies During Car Crash; Husband and Daughter Suffer Minor Injuries

The 33-year-old woman, who was stuck in the rear seat, had no visible injuries on her body. However, she was found lying unconscious in the rear seat.

Upon arrival, the rescue team reclined the front seat and lifted the woman out of the car. However, attempts to resuscitate her were futile.

The 33-year-old was eventually pronounced dead after being conveyed to a nearby hospital.

On the other hand, the deceased’s husband and daughter managed to escape from the car before the rescue team arrived. Both suffered only minor injuries.

Not the Only Accident That Day in the Same Section of the Highway

What’s most surprising is that the car crash involving the Singapore family of three wasn’t the only accident which happened that day on the highway. In fact, another accident occurred just 4 km away.

On Saturday (14 December), Taiwanese police received a report aruond 10 am about an accident at the 118.3 km mark on the same highway. A 19-year-old motorcyclist had slipped at a turn and collidde with an oncoming vehicle.

The motorcylist was a Vietnamese student studying at the Yu Da University of Science and Technology in Miaoli.

He was subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Taiwanese police warned drivers to drive cautiously on this section of the highway, given the numerous turns and slopes on the section. They also added that several accidents have happened in this section of the highway in recent years.

So, if you’re going to Taiwan soon and intend to rent a car to drive on the highway, drive safely lah, hor?
