A Chinese woman surnamed Yin, took her grandfather to Beijing recently for a holiday and shared a heartwarming incident on social media.
While shopping, her grandfather, who was known to be picky and thrifty, found a pair of Louis Vuitton shoes he fancied at the boutique.
According to Yin, it was rare that her grandfather would want to indulge in himself.
Knowing such stores do not usually have discounts, she conspired with the sales staff to play along when her grandfather asked about the price.
She said the salesperson pretended to check for the price, informing them the pair cost 1,000 yuan (S$184).
After hearing the price, the grandfather then allowed himself to try on the pair he was interested in while asking if there was a discount.
Yin and the salesperson then proceeded to put on their bargaining act, further lowering the price to 800 yuan (S$147)
It seems her grandfather was satisfied with the price and went on to buy the pair of shoes while Yin secretly topped up the difference behind his back.
How much?
According to Yin, she forked out about 10K yuan (S$1,848) and said she felt it was her duty to fulfill his wishes.
Though that is no small change, we guess seeing her grandfather satisfied with his purchase is worth many times over.
