Parasite star Song Kang-ho in first K-drama series, Uncle Samsik; Jang Na-ra joins Nam Ji-hyun in Good Partner – Korean drama casting latest

Set in the 1960s, the series follows the idealist Kim San (Byun), who dreams of transforming his country into an affluent one like America.

San enters into an uneasy alliance with fixer Pak Doo-chil (also known as Uncle Samsik, and played by Song), who can help the young man achieve this prosperous future with sometimes dubious methods.

The series is being directed by Shin Yeon-shick. It is the third collaboration in a row between Song and Shin, who wrote Cobweb and directed the soon-to-be-released sports film One Win.

Uncle Samsik will air at some point this year.

2. Thank You

Shin Ha-kyun ( Beyond Evil) and Jin Goo (Descendants of the Sun) are teaming up for the tvN drama Thank You, set in the world of corporate auditing. Joining them will be Jo Aram, formerly a member of the K-pop girl group Gugudan.

Shin will appear as Shin Cha-il, the principled leader of the audit team at a construction company which has a history of corruption. He soon teams up with a novice auditor with a different style. He was last seen opposite Kim Young-kwang in Evillive.

Meanwhile, Jin is on board as Yoon Seo-jin, the vice-president of the construction company. Jin recently appeared in the first season of Shadow Detective.

Following her stint with Gugudan, Jo has been focusing on acting, appearing in The Killer’s Shopping List and last year’s hit drama Doctor Cha.

Thank You will be directed by Kwon Young-il (Doom at Your Service). Production is scheduled to start in February and the series will air in July.

3. The Crown Prince Has Disappeared

Suho, a member of the K-pop outfit EXO, has been confirmed to lead MBN period romantic comedy The Crown Prince Has Disappeared. He joins Hong Ye-ji, whose casting has already been confirmed.

The series will follow Crown Prince Lee Gun (Suho) who, one day, is kidnapped by Choi Myung-yoon (Hong). While on the run, love blossoms between the pair.

Suho recently appeared in Behind Your Touch, while rising actress Hong is currently on screens in Love Song for Illusion.

Kim Min-kyu (Business Proposal) is in talks to play a rival romantic interest, while the participation of Myung Se-bin (Doctor Cha) and Yoo Se-rye (Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung) has already been confirmed.

Bossam: Steal the Fate writers Kim Ji-soo and Park Chul have teamed up once again for this drama, which is set to premiere in the first half of 2024.

4. Good Partner

Currently on screens in My Happy Ending, Jang Na-ra is already locked in for her next series, the SBS legal drama Good Partner, alongside Nam Ji-hyun ( Little Women).

Although precise plot details have yet to be revealed, the show will follow several divorce lawyers – among them Jang’s character – as they tackle bitter separations in court and deal with their own romantic woes outside it.

K-drama casting latest: Jeon Do-yeon tipped for crime thriller series

Known for her role in Sell Your Haunted House, Jang plays a furniture company CEO who grows suspicious of all the men in her life when she is targeted by a stalker in My Happy Ending. Nam was last seen in High Cookie.

Also confirmed for the series are Kim Jun-han ( Anna) and P.O ( Yumi’s Cells 2), a member of the boy band Block B.
